PARALLEL SPACE
When visitors enter, the Parallel Space created within the empty white cube they experience the new dimension of space and GAYAGEUM performance.

This is second collaboration between Studio JaSeo and GAYAGEUM (Korean Zither) performer Park KyungSo. Task that got assigned to us was to create a small performance space within main Gallery hall of Soorim Art Center. Ha Jung-Woong’s Gallery at Soorim Art Center that covers over 660m2 was assigned to Us as a performance venue. To keep the sound of GAYAGEUM as pure as possible artist decided to not use the help of any sound system and Due to a low sound Performance of GAYAGEUM it was necessary to create a smaller size area for this performance. We decided to introduce another dimension into the white cube of the gallery. In other words, we thought about the performance space as an object that we create within the gallery. Because GAYAGEUM is a traditional instrument we wanted to create a space that would especially emphasize a traditional atmosphere of the performance.
We decided to separate a performance area from main gallery space by thin fabric. We hoped that use of the fabric would not disturb a traditional form of the performance. We maximize this effect by using dim and fainted lights. In addition, audience could participate in performance seated on appropriate furniture’s or just standing around.

관객은 여백의 화이트 큐브에 설치된 공간으로 진입한다.
그리고 오로지 가야금 연주 만을 위한 새로운 차원을 경험하게 된다.
스튜디오 JASEO는 가야금 연주자 박경소와 두번째 협업을 진행했다. 우리가 부여 받은 과제는 수림아트센터의 메인 전시실 안에서 소규모 공연을 위한 공간 연출이었다. 공연 장소로 지정된 수림아트센터의 하정웅 갤러리는 660m2 규모의 화이트 큐브였고, 음향 장치의 도움 없이 연주가 이뤄지는 공연 특성상, 필수적으로 연주를 위한 공간을 기획해야 했다.

이러한 배경에서 우리는 이 큰 규모의 갤러리 안에 연주를 위한 또 하나의 차원을 만들었다.
즉, 여백의 화이트 큐브 안에 새로운 차원을 품은 오브제를 담아내고자 했다. 차원의 경계는 전통악기가 가진 문법에서 벗어나지 않기 위해 얇은 패브릭을 사용했으며, 은은한 조명을 사용하여 그 효과를 극대화했다. 또한 관객의 좌석은 입식과 좌식을 혼합하고 적절한 오브제를 배치했다.
